About Us

Our Vision

The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas mobilizes providers, learners, employers, educators, policy makers and other stakeholders to create a central Texas community that is 100% literate, employable, and engaged.

Our Mission

LCCT strengthens Central Texas literacy education providers through advocacy, research, training and resource development.

The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas is a non-profit organization working to support, coordinate and expand community efforts toward service provision, advocacy, and civic engagement. Our services support a network of over 70 organizations providing literacy services, including English as a second language classes, GED preparation classes, family literacy, health literacy, and workforce literacy within the 5 county region of Central Texas. We serve providers who serve people in Bastrop County, Caldwell County, Hays County, Travis County, and Williamson County.

Our History

In the late 1990’s and early 2000, a series of community forums discussed literacy needs in the community. Several themes emerged, including the need for a centralized point of coordination for the community’s literacy services as well as the need for increased public awareness and resources for programs. In response to these needs, the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas was founded in 2001 by a small group of literacy service providers and concerned community leaders. By working with its member providers, it has been able to reach out to new groups not currently being served, expand into new markets and increase the awareness of literacy needs in central Texas.

Core Values

Community Involvement: We seek opportunities to engage all members of the Central Texas community to address our region’s increasing literacy needs.

Making a Difference: Through our efforts, we strive to empower all key literacy stakeholders to address the issue of illiteracy.

Mission-focused: We actively pursue opportunities and actions that directly support our mission.

"I first got involved with the LCCT when some of my students worked with the LCCT on a class project. The students loved working with the organization – it’s a great team working on an important issue. The LCCT is doing excellent work, which makes it easy to get excited and spend time helping them advance the cause of literacy in Central Texas. Like my students, I enjoyed working with the LCCT a lot – I joined the Board of Directors in 2008 and value the opportunity to help the organization however I can."
