The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas has proudly served the Austin metropolitan area for almost a decade. Because of your generous support, we have been able to improve the availability and quality of literacy services, including English as a Second Language classes, early childhood literacy, adult basic education, GED preparation classes, family literacy and health literacy.

A gift to the Literacy Coalition helps alleviate illiteracy by expanding and improving our free services to over 70 partner literacy programs. Volunteer your time, donate a wish list item, attend a Spelling Bee, or eat at a local restaurant on an LCCT Benefit Day:  Every gift makes a difference!

The need for literacy services is greater than ever as the economic recession has disproportionately impacted our most vulnerable families - those who struggle to read, write, and speak English. Literacy programs are being flooded with people seeking services, while the programs’ financial resources are diminishing.These community programs are calling on the Literacy Coalition to provide resources to help with service delivery and training to help their instructors improve the literacy and language development of over 2,500 Central Texas families.

$30  Provides training for 10 healthcare professionals to improve their communication with low-literate patients.

$55  Covers the cost of printing and distributing 10 Literacy Services Directories to area professionals to help refer low-literate families to the best program to address their needs.

$80 Provides a volunteer instructor with training, classroom activities, and strategies for research-based adult English language instruction. Each volunteer instructor helpss an average of 25 students improve their English skills!

$110  Recruits 25 new volunteers to serve as instructors in area GED programs, providing a service valued at $2,500

$240  Provides health-related teaching materials for five instructors in adult literacy programs, improving the health literacy of over 100 families.
