Health Literacy Services for Healthcare Providers

The Literacy Coalition recently launched Health Literacy Forward, a comprehensive approach to address communication and environmental barriers faced by patients which lead to noncompliance, re-admittance and increased medical costs. Organizations will now be offered a continuum of services ranging from health literacy trainings to assessment of the patient-friendliness of facilities and evaluation of the effectiveness of written materials on low health literate individuals. Customized health literacy trainings for healthcare professionals are one element of Health Literacy Forward.

The Literacy Coalition is currently working with Seton Healthcare Family to develop both in-person and webinar workshops that will train staff from all departments and locations of the organization— including physicians— in clear health communication. This vital partnership coincides with the Coalition’s expansion of services in order to holistically address health literacy and communication issues in healthcare organizations throughout Texas.

Health Literacy Training: Your Role in Clear Health Communication

Health literacy workshops are available for healthcare providers in Central Texas and state-wide. Workshops focus on understanding health literacy and its importance to patient-compliance, informally assessing patient health literacy levels, and practicing strategies to improve patient-provider communication for both direct service providers and administrative staff.

Workshops are customized to individual clinics', organizations', or groups' needs regarding the length and focus of information and scenarios/examples used in each workshop.

Click here for estimated return on investment for these trainings.

Services are tailored to fit the specific health literacy difficulties faced by your agency. For more information or to discuss partnership, contact Peter Morrison at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by phone at (512) 735-2531.
