National Program Information

Literacy*AmeriCorps is a national service program that mobilizes enthusiastic citizens to “get things done” and make positive changes in communities throughout the country. Literacy*AmeriCorps is just one of thousands of national service programs funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency established in 1993 to engage Americans of all ages and backgrounds in community service. It supports a range of national and community service programs, providing opportunities for participants to serve full-time and part-time as individuals or as a part of a team. Literacy*AmeriCorps is administered by Greater Pittsburgh Literacy CouncilGreater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, a national leader in adult education and family literacy. Local organizations manage the program in each city. GPLC oversees and monitors each local program.
