LCCT is currently offering various 3-hour professional development workshops designed to be quick reviews of best practices for literacy program staff and instructors. Workshops will cover a variety of topics to raise the quality of literacy instruction in our community. These workshops aim to present research-based, practical tools and strategies for program administration and the classroom.
Professional development course topics are based on feedback from LCCT's monthly instructor meet-ups and quarterly Provider Advisory Councils. We welcome suggestions of additional topics, critical feedback, and collaboration in workshop development. How to Manage a Multilevel Classroom
This interactive 3-hour course introduces the types of multilevel classrooms an educator may encounter, the research behind effective instructional strategies for multilevel classrooms, and sample activities that engage multiple students with a wide range of skill levels.

Evaluating Classroom Instruction
This working session is designed to help program managers create an instructor-friendly evaluation culture at their organizations. We will discuss incorporating evaluations smoothly with instructor-support, developing a classroom observation format for volunteer instructors, and ways to make evaluation feedback both constructive and inspiring.

Student Persistence and Retention
Getting students to keep coming back has long been an issue for community-based literacy programs. This interactive session will review the research on student persistence, ways that agencies can structure their programs to promote retention, and strategies instructors can use to keep students coming to class.

Learning to Achieve
LCCT is pleased to host this excellent training on best practices for educating adults with learning disabilities. This training is being offered to Central Texas literacy program staff and volunteer instructors for FREE through the Volunteer Training Initiative! Topics include how to identify learners with disabilities, testing and accomodations for ELLs, strategies for teaching reading and writing to adults with learning disabilties, and more.
