Thanks for your interest in ESL Instructor Training!

The Literacy Coalition's ESL Instructor training program consists of a two-day, 12-hour training session based on the research of Heide Spruck-Wrigley of Literacyworks International. Training content is rooted in research on second language acquisition, learning theory, studies in cognitive science, and research on adult ESL literacy.

This training is designed to introduce new and volunteer instructors to effective ESL instruction, and can serve as a helpful refresher for veteran teachers. The training offers an overview of research-based lesson planning, a variety of practical, effective teaching strategies, and engaging activities that teachers can adapt for their classroom.

The training has 3 core objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to employ effective ESL teaching strategies.
  2. Participants will know how to use key instructional materials.
  3. Participants will be able to use a research-based ESL lesson planning framework.

All participants will receive the LCCT's evidence-based ESL Instructional Manual. The manual includes a guide to effective ESL lesson-planning, communicative teaching strategies, teaching tips for instructors, sample activity packets, and additional resources. The interactive training will demonstrate many of the manual's teaching strategies and classroom activities.

There is a $30 registration fee per instructor. LCCT will waive the registration fee for volunteers at a program in the LCCT network.

Please submit $30 registration fee via check to:
