LCCT has placed 18 members in 14 of our Volunteer Recruitment & Management: This member will teach an EL/Civics class each evening Monday – Thursday & plan appropriate lessons based on grant requirements and Texas Content Standards to be shared with the program manager. Assist with registration and student enrollment for evening classes. Recruit volunteer teachers and tutors to serve a minimum of one evening per week, for a minimum duration of 6 months. Coordinate professional development activities for volunteers. Supervise volunteers during evening hours of operation.
Literacy Program Assistant: This member will be responsible for administering assessments, providing group and individual instruction, participating in outreach, volunteer management, and tracking student progress. Member needs to be bilingual and ABC would prefer the member to have a bachelor’s degree in education. The Austin Academy (Filled) Literacy Tutor/Volunteer Manager: The Austin Academy (TAA) is an adult education service agency that seeks to help adults find self sufficiency through furthering their education. TAA has a self paced adult basic education class that helps people who test below a 9th grade level, and they need manager a to help the students achieve higher levels of competency through one on one instruction with provided curricula. This AmeriCorps member would also help TAA create and implement a volunteer recruitment and coordination program.
Literacy Instructor: The member working with the Austin Learning Academy will have the opportunity to assist in enrollment, orientation and assessment of students; create lesson plans; provide direct instruction to a classroom and work side by side with the ALA team. This member will also be expected to assist in home visits with students and be able to work with vulnerable populations in a culturally sensitive manner.
Adult Education Instructor: Member will provide adult basic ESL classes, including enrollment, orientation and assessment of students, and lesson planning. Member will be expected to assist in home visits and statistical reporting. Responsibilities will also include classroom assistance to community resource speakers and parent educators. Member must be bilingual (English/Spanish) and able to work with diverse populations. Early Childhood Development Aide: Member will assist Early Childhood Instructors in providing developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children, with a focus on pre-literacy, math, and mental, emotional and physical development leading to age appropriate school readiness. Member will familiarize themselves with children's activities and assist with the development of lesson plans and communication with the parents. Responsibilities also include assisting Early Childhood Instructors in maintaining accurate, complete and correct records of children such as class attendance, health records and injury reports. Member must be bilingual (English/Spanish) and able to work with diverse populations. Christian Women’s Job Corps (Filled) Coordinator of ABE: The AmeriCorps member will be involved at the beginning in the setting up of procedures, instructional standards, scheduling classes and working with site staff in the recruitment of volunteer teachers, training the teachers to ensure consistency in the teaching process. As the program gets started, the member will spend time in teaching ABE, lesson planning, and measuring student progress. It is also envisioned that the member will spend some time in counseling students and establishing liaison with the community to determine needs that can be addressed by Hope Street and its various programs and services. The member will become the spokesperson for the Hope Street ABE program.
Literacy Instructor: This position will be responsible for ESL & ABE/GED classroom instruction, creating lesson plans, collaboration with adult education instructors, assisting with computer literacy tutor for low-level students, and student assessment using standardized testing, grading and informal assessments. Additional duties will include recruiting and managing volunteers for classroom and computer literacy program, mentoring students, community outreach activities and attendance at group events including literacy fairs, learner recognition ceremonies.
San Marcos Public Library & Kyle Learning Center: Adult Education Specialist These members will be responsible for Volunteer Management including the development of a volunteer recruitment plan, implementing volunteer training as well as researching & implementing best practices regarding volunteer support and retention. Members will also be Computer Literacy Tutors and Lab Managers that will have the opportunity to teach students how to use computer applications to achieve goals, mentor adult education staff and students on Web 2.0 applications, assist programs in staying current with new technologies and assist program in the implementation of the Learner Web.
Education Program Assistant: This member will coordinate volunteer instructors to teach courses and assist with student schedules and issues. Member will be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment for the students and teachers, ensuring that proper materials are at instructors’ disposal, supervising volunteers and addressing both client and teacher needs. This member will supervise and support over 80 volunteers that assist in the Education Department through training and administration. Secure the appropriate volunteers needed to adequately staff the Education classes and Education office. English at Work (Filled) Literacy Instructor: Member will support the organization’s mission by customizing curricula, assessing students, and increasing capacity in a number of ways. Member will teach up to 5 classes per week at partner businesses, customize curricula for new and ongoing classes, create curriculum templates for target industries, conduct student assessments using a variety of tools and train volunteers to customize curricula.
Adult Education Program Assistant: Member will help coordinate the FC adult education program, including ESL, Financial Education and Homebuyer Education. Member will support volunteers to teach classes, recruit students for classes, enroll students and assist in assessments and complete follow up review with students to collect information about student outcomes
Teaching Assistant: This member will have the opportunity to process new refugee students; including referrals; filling out intake forms with clients and directing them to the right class. This member will also be teaching small groups strictly following the teacher’s lesson plans and administering testing for the students including pre/post-testing and the BEST Plus. Additionally the member will help to recruit, assign, and coordinate volunteer training.
GED Literacy Specialist: The goal of the LifeWorks GED Program is to prepare youth for successful adulthood and independence through the pursuit of education. Our objectives are to: (1) Increase student’s academic levels; (2) prepare students for the GED exam; (3) Assist students in seeking employment and/or gaining job skills. The Literacy Specialist will work with students between the ages of 16-26 who are functioning below a 6th grade reading level. Members will collaborate with instructors to develop reading, language and writing lessons; adjust teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student’s needs, abilities, and interests; observe and evaluate student work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement; prepare and administer the TABE; maintain accurate and complete student records as required by program policies. Literacy Program Specialist: The goal of the LifeWorks Literacy Programs is to reduce the rate of functional illiteracy in greater Austin by helping adult students learn to read English, which will enable them to improve the quality of their lives and in many instances help them to achieve greater economic stability. Our objective is to provide instruction in basic literacy and English as a Second Language for adults age 17 and older who read below the sixth grade level. Achieving level 6 reading is adequate preparation for enrollment in pre-GED or vocational classes. The Literacy Program is a volunteer based. Volunteers provide instruction to people 17 years of age and older who read below a sixth grade level. The Literacy Specialist will adjust teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student’s varying needs, abilities, and interests; observe and evaluate student work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement; prepare and administer the TABE and BEST Plus; and train volunteers to adequately provide ABE and ESL instruction. Literacy Program Specialist: Coordinate Title I, Title II, and Title IV activities with Emergency Shelter and Transitional Living Programs. Duties may include tutoring, development of educational plans, resource referral, and group facilitation. Implement technology initiatives with client population, including credit recovery and online educational resources. Communicate with school related conferences, participate IEP’s and ARDs, when needed. Transport clients to appointments, as needed. Collaborate with AISD liaisons to advocate for client population needs. Monitor student education portfolios, including school records and correspondence, to ensure they are up to date. Manos de Cristo (Filled) Assistant Education Coordinator: This member will assist with program promotion through outreach; enrollment and registration; volunteer support and resource development; and testing with placement and progress for ESL students. Additionally the member will have the opportunity to create curriculum and unit supplements that are in line with learners’ needs in the community. The member will establish connection with employers of ESL and Computer Literacy students to heighten buy-in and student retention, assist with outreach at Mexican Consulate. I’m interested!
