Who We Are

The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas (LCCT) is a nonprofit organization working to alleviate illiteracy across the lifespan by strengthening our community’s network of literacy programs.

Our mission is to strengthen Central Texas literacy education providers through advocacy, research, training and resource development.

Our vision is to mobilize providers, learners, employers, educators, policy makers and other stakeholders to create a central Texas community that is 100% literate, employable, and engaged.

Our Staff:

 

Meg Poag, Executive Director

Ms. Poag received her Master’s of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin.  Meg served for two years as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Texas School of Social Work and has focused her professional career facilitating a variety of collaborative community-building efforts.  In her thirteen years of professional experience in human services, Ms. Poag has worked in direct practice, administration and community planning in the areas of housing stability and affordability, substance abuse, mental health treatment, early childhood education, literacy, and services for the elderly and survivors of domestic violence.

 

Nichole Lopez, Program Manager

Nichole Lopez-Riley graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with a Master’s degree in Public Policy and a concentration in International Development focusing on health and education. Previously, Nichole worked as Program Coordinator and Research Assistant for the African American Studies Department and the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland. Nichole is master literacy trainer for community-based programs and has extensive experience in international development, program management and training design.

 

Carly Bradshaw, Development and Communications Officer

Carly Bradshaw is a recent graduate of The University of Texas at Austin where she received her Master’s of Science in Social Work and her Bachelor’s of Science in Communications Studies.  Carly has had extensive experience working with youth and teenagers through Austin YoungLife, various summer youth camps, and through an internship with Communities in Schools.  Carly’s professional passions include fundraising, donor and volunteer relations, organizational development, community-building, and communications.

Peter Morrison, Health Literacy Specialist

Peter Morrison graduated Lake Forest College in Illinois with a double major in International Relations and Spanish with a minor in Business.  He is a certified English as a Second Language trainer and has extensive experience in health literacy training design, material development and workshop facilitation. Prior to joining the LCCT, Peter worked internationally in the fields of health and education and plans to continue his career in public health education and community development.
